As the year comes to a close, we want to take a moment and update our policyholders on some of the highlights of this year.

The leadership of our Loss Prevention Department changed following the retirement of Jessie Mayhew and the appointment of Jennifer Wilson to the role of Manager. Sarah Boyce returned from maternity leave and has joined Jennifer in the administrative role for the department. Our Underwriting Department is pleased Pamela Marr joined their team and she is learning the farm and residential lines of business. We welcomed Todd Dewey to our company in June as our IT Administrator. The need for IT continues to grow and we are pleased to have Todd on our team.

We are very proud to have updated our logo and launched a new website. A website refresh has been on our to do list for some time and we are very pleased to have launched it on our 145 th anniversary. We hope it provides our policyholders with more information about our company – please check it occasionally for new posts in our blog.

I hesitate to discuss the financial results. As I write this post, there is still one day left in 2019. Many of our policyholders experienced losses this year beginning with the wet spring and high water levels. The number of large fire losses in 2019 exceeds our 10 year average. Luckily, the financial markets were much better in 2019 than in 2018 and the investment results should offset our underwriting loss and we hope to end the year with a positive bottom line.

We have started to plan for this year’s Annual General Meeting. You should receive your annual newsletter and notice of the meeting in February. Chair Dalton Arthur will host this year’s meeting in the Kingston area.

On behalf of our Board and the entire team at Bay of Quinte Mutual, we want to wish you a very happy and healthy 2020.

President
